Since then, it has been a waiting game, with by far the hardest stretch of time being the most recent. The process of Sanders’ election into the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2007 was a long one, beginning in August 2006 when he was chosen as a senior candidate. With six members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the University of Minnesota is tied for the fourth most of any school behind USC (11), Notre Dame (10) and Michigan (seven). Sanders, 60, joined Bronko Nagurski (1963), Leo Nomellini (1969), Bobby Bell (1983), Bud Grant (1994) and Carl Eller (2004) as Gopher alums in Canton. He became the sixth Golden Gopher to enter the Pro Football of Fame in Canton, Ohio. On Saturday, former Golden Gopher tight end Charlie Sanders who played for the Detroit Lions from 1968-77 became just the seventh tight end in NFL history to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
